Durga Ashtami (Navratri Day 9)
30 September 2025 marks the ninth day of Navratri, observed as Maha Ashtami, a highly auspicious day when Goddess Durga is worshipped with devotion and grandeur. According to scriptures, this is the day when the Goddess fought her decisive battle against evil forces, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil.

Special Rituals & Significance

  • Maha Ashtami Puja: Devotees perform Shodashopachar puja, recite Durga Saptashati, and offer Pushpanjali.
  • Sandhi Puja: Conducted during the sacred juncture of Ashtami and Navami, considered the most powerful moment of Navratri.
  • Kanya Pujan (Kanjak): Worship of nine young girls as manifestations of Goddess Durga. Devotees wash their feet, apply tilak, and serve traditional bhog.
  • Bhog / Prasad: Poori, kala chana (black chickpeas), and suji halwa are prepared and offered to the Goddess before serving to devotees and Kanyas.
  • Other rituals: Homa, havan, chanting of Devi stotras, and community aartis mark the day.

Cultural Notes
In many regions, Durga Ashtami is also associated with Saraswati Puja and Astra Puja (worship of tools, books, and instruments). This day also sees bank and institutional holidays across several Indian states.
