Spiritual Significance of 17 October 2025: Govatsa Dwadashi / Vagh Baras – Honoring Cows and Nature’s Abundance

Spiritual Thought of the Day

“Reverence for life begins with gratitude — when we honor the giver, we honor the Divine within creation.”

Day Significance

Govatsa Dwadashi, also known as Vagh Baras, is observed as a day to honor the sacred cow (Gau Mata) — the embodiment of nourishment and motherhood. Devotees worship cows and calves, symbolizing gratitude for nature’s sustenance. In many regions, business communities observe Vasu Baras, a ritual cleansing of financial ledgers, signifying new beginnings ahead of Diwali.

The Dwadashi Tithi begins at 11:12 AM on 17 October and ends at 12:18 PM on 18 October 2025. The Pradosh Muhurta (6:05 PM – 8:30 PM) is considered most auspicious for Govatsa Puja and evening prayers.

During this period, devotees bathe and decorate cows, offer wheat, green gram, or jaggery, and chant mantras invoking peace and prosperity.
