Maa Shailputri – Day 1 of Sharad Navratri
On the first day of Sharad Navratri, Maa Shailputri is worshiped. She is the daughter of the Himalaya (Shaila = mountain, Putri = daughter) and an incarnation of Goddess Parvati. Maa Shailputri rides on a bull (Nandi) and holds a trident and a lotus in her hands.
