Kartik Purnima 2025 – The Divine Festival of Light, Purity, and Devotion

Today, 5 November 2025, holds immense significance in the Hindu calendar as Kartik Purnima, also called Dev Diwali or the Festival of the Gods. On this divine day, devotees across India and the world offer prayers, perform sacred river baths, and light thousands of lamps to honor Lord Vishnu’s cosmic victory and illumination of the universe.

This full-moon day marks the end of the holy month of Kartika — a month devoted to Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. According to the Puranas, Kartik Purnima symbolizes the day when Lord Vishnu defeated the demon Tripurasura, restoring cosmic order and light. Hence, the day is celebrated as Tripurari Purnima as well, signifying the triumph of divine energy over darkness.

Devotees wake up early for a ritual bath in holy rivers (known as Kartik Snan), believed to cleanse sins and purify the soul. Throughout the day, they offer prayers to Vishnu, perform Tulsi Puja, chant divine hymns, and illuminate their homes and temples with oil lamps — symbolizing the eternal presence of light and righteousness. Charity and feeding the poor are considered highly meritorious on this day.

In cities like Varanasi, Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Pandharpur, grand Dev Deepawali celebrations take place with thousands of diyas lighting up the ghats, creating a heavenly glow that mirrors the inner awakening of the soul. Spiritually, Kartik Purnima represents renewal — a time to let go of negativity and invite divine wisdom, purity, and compassion.
